“The Rock of Our Redeemer”

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 35 | August 26-September 1 | Helaman 1-6

It’s hard to imagine a better metaphor for the spiritual stability that Jesus Christ offers than a strong, rock-solid foundation. As the Nephites entered another troubling period of history, it’s clear that their key to survival was to be valiant in the testimony of the Savior. The prophet Helaman taught his sons that they needed to lead the people in building “upon the rock of our Redeemer… a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall” (Helaman 5:12) if they were to make it through their trials.

As the new school year begins, we might become aware of new difficulties in the lives of our children. We can help them endure and grow through times of learning by strengthening their foundation of faith in Christ. The activities in this week’s lesson will help them see how faith in the Savior can make a difference in their lives not just with challenges at home, but also in the classroom.

This week’s Come Follow Me FHE lessons teaches principles straight from the scriptures. They include everything you need to make Come, Follow Me fun for your kids! THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

The elementary bundle is a treasure trove for kids aged 4-11, featuring activities that instill key principles. Let’s explore three highlights:

A Firm Foundation Toolkit

Hands-On Activity

Building a foundation takes time, effort and tools. Read Helaman 5:12. Discuss the blessings of building a sure foundation on Jesus Christ with your child. Assemble “My Toolbox and Tools” and put the tools inside as you talk about the things that will help assist you. Cut out the Helaman 5:12 scripture print and have your child tape it to their mirror as a constant reminder of what they learned.

Story Guide

Scripture Study

Enjoy getting into the scriptures with your family this week as you work together on the “Scripture Story Guide” and accompanying stickers. The guide for this week aligns with Helaman 5:22-52.

Pop the Pride!

Surprise Activity

Grab some chewing gum to use in the “Pop the Pride” object lesson. As you read Helaman 3:33-34, talk about the Nephite’s pride cycle and how we can find pride within ourselves. Have your child blow a bubble big enough to pop with their gum as you discuss the consequences of being prideful.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams. The toddler bundle Includes a full lesson plan with THREE activities that align with scripture written by an early childhood educator. These include a coloring page, another printable activity, and a movement activity that helps young children understand the scriptures. Here are a couple of highlights from this week’s lesson.

A Foundation in Jesus

Hands-On Activity

Read Helaman 5:12. Describe to your child what a “foundation” is. You might take them outside to see the foundation of your own house. Say, “A foundation of a building is usually found at the bottom and is built first. It is what makes the building stand tall and strong.” Describe to your child that the scriptures teach us that we need to build our foundation on Jesus Christ. This means that we have faith in him and believe His teachings with all our hearts! If we do, then we will be able to stand strong when we have our own hard times or when we begin to have questions. Then, invite your child to use blocks or Lego bricks build a tall building—making sure their foundation is strong. Your child will soon notice that the better the foundation, the taller the building can be. Close your activity by singing together “The Wise Man and the Foolish Man” (Children’s Songbook, pg. 281).

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.
