“I Am the Law, and the Light”

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 40 | September 30-October 6 | 3 Nephi 12-16

It is no coincidence that the temple was the place of Jesus Christ’s first appearance to the Nephites after His resurrection. In fact, nearly every moment the Savior spent with His “other sheep” was at this holy location. There, the law was given and the gospel was proclaimed by the Savior of the World. He also shared His most important desire with the Nephites: “I would that ye should be perfect” (3 Nephi 12:48).

While perfection will not come in this life, we set ourselves on the covenant path to that ambition by living the laws Christ has given us. We can make that path a little easier to travel when, like the Nephites, we both gather at the temple often, and, when not in the House of the Lord, choose to make our homes more of a place where the lessons of the gospel can be taught.

In addition to this week’s lesson, General Conference is right around the corner. If you haven’t already, order your General Conference Activity Bag Bundle to help have a spiritually-filling weekend! THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

This week, teach your children the chapters of Alma 43-52. You will find an activity book for your children (one for ages 3-6 and one for ages 7+). Print your activity book pages, then cut all of them in half, except the cover. You will fold the cover in half to help keep the pages together. Put all your pages in order inside the cover and then staple along the left-hand edge to keep it together. Make one book for each of your children (see lesson for details).

A Light That Cannot Be Hid

Hands-On Activity

Jesus teaches us to be a light to others. He compares our lights to a candle and asks us not to hide them. Get a wax candle, a blank piece of paper and some dark watercolor paint. Use these materials to reveal the secret scripture message in 3 Nephi 12:16 that “shines” through!

Bee Believing

Go & Do Activity

Read 3 Nephi 12:1-11 as a family and look for the words found in the verses on the “Beatitude Beehive Mat” that Jesus shares in His sermon. Get some Honeycomb cereal to use as markers and see which family member can make a path to a beehive first!

Sticker Time!

Scripture Study

Grab your “Scripture Story Guide Book and Stickers” and enjoy getting into the scriptures with your family this week. The “Scripture Story Guide and Stickers” align with 3 Nephi 12:1-18.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

This week, we’ll be sharing the gospel with your little ones using the activity book in the Elementary Bundle. Be sure to use the activity book for younger children (Level 1, Recommended for ages 3-6). Print your activity book pages, then cut all of them in half, except the cover. You will fold the cover in half to help keep the pages together. Put all your pages in order inside the cover and then staple along the left-hand edge. Make one book for each of your children.

Lay Up Your Treasures in Heaven

Hands-On Activity

With items you have a home, make a treasure sensory box. For example, fill a plastic shoe box, baking dish, or any other bin with sand or dirt. If you don’t want to use sand you could use another sensory material like rice. Print the gold coins and laminate for durability. Hide them in the sensory box and bury them under the sand or rice. Get a large paintbrush and bring your child to the table with the sensory box. Say, “When we think of treasure, we think of something that is special. It’s probably worth a lot, right?” Yes! Describe to your child how when we treasure something, we think it’s very important to us. Ask, “Can you think of something in your life that is very special to you?” Entertain your child’s ideas and then help them grasp the principle found in 3 Nephi 13:19-21. Say, “This means that we should treasure things that are going to last. When we return to heaven, we won’t take any toys, things, or money with us. The stuff that should be most important to us should be things that last forever, like our families or Jesus! Let’s uncover things that we should treasure in our hearts.” Give your child the paintbrush and have them slowly brush away the rice or sand to uncover the gold coins. Discuss these pictures with your child and describe their importance. On the coins are images of things that we should value. If they get a blank coin, have them share something important to them.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.
