Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 10 | March 3-9 | Doctrine and Covenants 19

The Doctrine and Covenants are filled with wisdom and guidance on how to live a life of faith. Section 19 contains calls from the Savior to repent and come unto Him. The command to “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit,” (D&C 19:23) asks us to trust that He is the answer to life’s pains and problems. He promises in return to give us peace.

The promise of peace is not just for adults. We should read this verse over and over to our children, helping them understand that when we look to Christ for guidance, He will always be there. It is because of Him that all things can be overcome, no matter how old we are or what we are going through.

Simon Says!

Surprise Activity

It’s time to move and groove! Simon Says is a fun way to learn key words in D&C 19:23, and how our actions help us learn, listen and walk with Jesus Christ. Everlasting peace is our promise if we do these actions. Have fun and try to memorize the scripture while you play!

Pictures of Christ

Go & Do Activity

Talk with your family about the Sacrament and how it is important to remember Jesus while we partake of the Sacrament. Have every member of your family pick a picture of Jesus Christ to look at during the Sacrament this coming Sunday. You can go to Deseret Book and have everyone choose a small size picture, or go online to the church website to print some.

Roll and Pray!

Hands-On Activity

Get your game dice ready for a fun family game night! Before you begin the game, make a list of people you know that may need some prayers at this time. Then play the Roll & Pray game. At the end of the game read D&C 19:38 and end with a family prayer, including the names of those individuals you wrote on your list.

I Can Repent

Hands-On Activity

Before reading, invite your child to touch their nose if they have heard these scriptures before. Read D&C 20:77 and D&C 20:79. Teach that the sacrament is a special time when we think about Jesus. Jesus did many wonderful things for us. Jesus made it so that we can repent and live with our families forever through special promises called covenants. When we get baptized, we make our first promise, or covenant, with Jesus. Explain that even though your child isn’t baptized yet, they can still think about those promises. Teach your child how to remember Jesus with the Sacrament Lacing Cards activity provided in the lesson.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“We Believe”

Though we have reached the end of the Doctrine and Covenants, the work of the Restoration is still ongoing: “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God” (Articles of Faith 1:9). Prophets still reveal the will of God. The Church is still growing to fill the Earth.

“The Vision of the Redemption of the Dead”

“What happens after we die?” This is a question commonly asked by all of God’s children. Because of continuing revelation through living prophets, we know! Doctrine and Covenants Sections 137 and 138 reveal that our loved ones who have died go to a place of rest if they were faithful in their testimony of Christ, where they are then prepared to teach the gospel in the spirit world. Those who died who were not faithful are given the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ and accept ordinances performed by the living: “and thus was the gospel preached to the dead” (D&C 138:30).

He “Has Sealed His Mission and His Works with His Own Blood”

Doctrine and Covenants Section 135 could be viewed as the conclusion of the entire Doctrine and Covenants scriptures, were it not for additional revelation given to the saints. This section witnesses the divinity of the Prophet Joseph’s calling. It declares Joseph’s work to be of God and that it will never fail. It also testifies that those who read the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as the Book of Mormon, “will be reminded that the Book of Mormon, and this book of Doctrine and Covenants of the church, cost the best blood of the nineteenth century to bring them forth” (D&C 135:6).
