I have seen many pictures and paintings depicting Joseph Smith’s First Vision—beautiful representations of the visitation of God the Father and Jesus Christ to their future servant, the prophet Joseph. However, I have never seen a painting that captures the perspective of God and Jesus looking down upon Joseph’s face. I felt it was important to tell this story from their unique vantage point. The collective heavenly love and light reflected on the young boy’s face symbolize the experiences I have had with Christ in my own life. I have been given leadership opportunities that might not have been offered from a worldly perspective but were extended by the Father and His Son, who saw my potential and the growth these opportunities could foster.
In that moment, God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ saw not just the young boy before them but also the future prophet he would become. They recognized his potential and the growth he would achieve through the opportunities they would provide him.
