I Will Go and Do

Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids

Week 3 | January 6 - January 12

The scriptures to read and study this week are 1 Nephi 1-7. As you read and discuss these chapters you can use the timeline provided in your materials as a visual aid to help teach about Nephi getting the brass plates.

As you read let your children color the characters from the Book of Mormon. This will help their hands stay busy so their minds can be engaged. Afterwards you can let the children retell the story of Nephi getting the plates using the scene of Laban’s house and the characters.

You can use a bonus idea to continue the main lesson or do a bonus idea each day. One of the bonus ideas is to talk about how the Book of Mormon testifies of Christ. Read Day 1 on your summary sheet for more information. Then have each family member write their testimony on the lined paper provided. If you have a child that is too young to write they can color the testimony coloring page. We love doing this at the beginning of each year to look back at the end of the year and see how our testimonies have grown.

The Day 4 idea talks about Lehi praying unto the Lord. Set a goal to say family and personal prayers each day this week. We provided a prayer chart for you to mark each day you pray.

Read your summary sheet for more bonus ideas and for a song list. Music is another great way for children to learn. If you don’t know a song look it up on the Sacred Music app and learn it as a family.

One of the bonus activities is the Scripture Marking Guide. It’s a little different and we include two different versions, one for younger kids and another one for older kids.

“My Heart Rejoiceth in the Lord”

The Lord loved His people, the children of Israel. We read in Ruth that His love wasn’t just for the nation as a whole, but for each person individually who kept their covenants. Ruth is an example of a convert to the faith who trusted in the Lord to keep her and her mother-in-law safe during a famine. Ruth’s loyalty to God helped her see His blessings in her life and trust that even in an uncertain world, good things would come.

“The Lord Raised Up a Deliverer”

What does the perfect parent look like? Is it someone who never yells? Who is always present with their children? Maybe it’s someone who cooks food that the kids never complain about. The Book of Judges teaches us that even with specific rules and expectations, the children of Israel had a habit of returning to sin and idolatry time and time again. Even after they sinned or complained yet again, the Lord always invited them to start new and return to Him.

“Be Strong and of a Good Courage”

Most of the Israelites heading into the Promised Land had been born in the wilderness. Few remembered the treacherous journey across the bottom of the Red Sea, yet all would experience the miracle again as they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground. This time, however, it was not a crowd of fleeing former slaves who worshipped golden calves. It was the camp of Israel, a covenant-making people who had proven their faithfulness to the Lord.
