The Doctrine and Covenants are filled with wisdom and guidance on how to live a life of faith. Section 19 contains calls from the Savior to repent and come unto Him. The command to “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit,” (D&C 19:23) asks us to trust that He is the answer to life’s pains and problems. He promises in return to give us peace.
The promise of peace is not just for adults. We should read this verse over and over to our children, helping them understand that when we look to Christ for guidance, He will always be there. It is because of Him that all things can be overcome, no matter how old we are or what we are going through.

Hands-On Activity
Get your game dice ready for a fun family game night! Before you begin the game, make a list of people you know that may need some prayers at this time. Then play the Roll & Pray game. At the end of the game read D&C 19:38 and end with a family prayer, including the names of those individuals you wrote on your list.

Hands-On Activity
Before the lesson, print out the pages for the “I Can Learn of Jesus” mini book and place them in different parts of your home, or outside for your Jesus walk. (As you are on your Jesus walk, you will collect the pages to be able to assemble the book.) Start by reading D&C 19:23 together. You can assign actions to the words: “learn of me” hold out your hands like a book; “listen to my words” cup your ear with your hands; “walk in the meekness” walk in place; “ye shall have peace” put prayer hands by your heart. Read this through a couple of times while doing the actions. Explain that Jesus tells us that we need to learn about Him, and He promises us that when we learn about Him, we will have peace. That means we will feel good and calm inside. Say, “Today we are going to go for a Jesus walk and learn more about Him.” As a family, go for your Jesus walk and collect the pages for your book. Explain that another way you can learn about Jesus is by reading the scriptures. Share your testimony of Christ and His love for us. You could even share an experience you have had where Christ has brought you peace.

“I am a Child of God, and He has sent me here.” While we know this to be the opening line to a Primary song, the doctrine taught in this sentence was a key part of the Restoration of the gospel. This divine truth was made clear even before the Church was organized when, in 1829, the Lord told the prophet Joseph to “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (D&C 18:10).
